While the Korean film Parasite was the big winner of the 92nd Academy Awards this weekend, with four statuettes won, its mini-series spin-off seems to be coming to fruition. We learned recently that it would not be an American remake, or a sequel itself, but that it would be a question of exploring stories annexed to the film. Today, corridor noises are getting louder and louder: Mark Ruffalo, the face of Hulk/Bruce Banner since 2012, could play in the mini-series Parasite!
Mark Ruffalo, present in the Parasite mini-series?
Being in a development stage at the moment, it is far too early to say anything. So, if this information is to be taken with tweezers, Collider declares that it is possible that Mark Ruffalo has an important role in the mini-series inspired by the Korean film and directed by Bong Joon-ho. At least, according to several of his sources. Obviously, HBO was contacted following this rumor and the company declared that “The HBO mini-series inspired by Parasite is still in its infancy, and speculating on its characters or its cast is considerably premature.” And that’s where we can play on words. In fact, HBO chose the term “premature” rather than “false”. Could this suggest that Mark Ruffalo is actually negotiating for a role in the Parasite series? We’ll see. In any case, we should not know more right away since the production of the series should not be done until next year.
But if Mark Ruffalo is found in the mini-series Parasite, we can ask the question of the role he will inherit. I don’t know about you, but I very much hope that the actors of the film are united in this spin-off and the idea of a new character (American, in addition) makes me frown. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going on an Americanized version, but if it was, it would be a real shame. We can still hope that Mark Ruffalo is a brand new character, still unknown until then. After all, he’s an excellent actor!
Parasite is a movie that came with a breath of fresh air, which can be seen from its box office collection. Seeing the immense popularity of the movie, HBO decided to make its miniseries on HBO Go and cast some of the best performing actors that Hollywood has seen in recent times. It will be interesting to see how this American series does, given the fact that Parasite was a huge hit in the US and Americans liked the movie a lot, despite being a foreign film.
